Thanks for all of you who gave your opinion on our Madrid apartment options in my last post! And the winner is…(drumroll please…) Option #2, The Impressive Penthouse! Happily, this apartment lived up to its hype.
The highlight of this property are the two terraces. One faces Northeast and the other Northwest. You have an outstanding cityscape and sky view from each of them and a choice of sun or a shadier experience during the day. I guarantee that sitting on one of these in the evening looking at the sky and the nightlife below will make you feel sorry for everone in the world who is not you 🙂
The other thing I loved about this apartment was all the natural light. Windows are plentiful and the ones in the living area are huge. It is also high enough that the street noise isn’t a bother.
In addition to the living area and terraces, the penthouse has a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and sleeping loft. The bedroom has a huge closet with hangers and shelves. I can’t tell you a thing about the sleeping loft because it’s only accessible via a 6′ ladder and that just didn’t seem like a good idea for so many reasons. The couch, however, was extremely comfortable and there was an extra duvet provided, so the loft wasn’t needed.
The Penthouse is on the corner of Calle de Cruz and Calle de Principe, only 4 minutes walking from the Puerto del Sol plaza, so its very centerally located. The building has an elevator, or some dizzy-making spiral stairs, if you are so inclined (inclined, see what I did there??) The kitchen has what you need, including a stovetop, fridge, microwave, teapot, and corkscrew. You will need to purchase any food products that you want, including coffee, oil, and spices.
This apartment was perfect for two of us. I think it would work for a family with small monkeys who can climb to the sleeping loft, but it would be too small for more than two adults. I would defintely stay here again. Extra points to the property management for very accurately representing the apartment in the VRBO listing!
So overall, this penthouse apartment was a great find, and I recommend you try it out when you visit Madrid!! (BTW, the phone by the door is just an intercom so when some random person rings you from the street and says “Venga a la puerta!!” I recommend you don’t.)
Chasing on to our next stop now!
